The captain of Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indian, Hardik Pandya, was fined Rs.12 lakhs on Friday.
The fine was imposed because Mumbai maintained a slow over rate during their match against Punjab Kings on Thursday.
“Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Punjab Kings at the PCA New International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur on April 18,” IPL stated in a press release.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” it added.
Jasprit Bumrah (3/21), Gerald Coetzee's (3/32) and a 78-run knock from Surya Kumar Yadav played a key role in Mumbai’s win over Punjab by nine runs.
Ashutosh Sharma (61 off 28) threatened to take the game away from Mumbai after Suryakumar Yadav's 78(53) guided visitors to 192/7.
Bumrah and Coetzee then bowled superbly in the second innings to help Mumbai register an important win.
"Very good game. Everyone's nerves got tested. We spoke that the characters will be checked in this game. But naturally you think you are ahead but you know IPL has a tendency to show that oppositions can come back and how,” Pandya said after the game.
[Ashutosh] was unbelievable, playing the way he did and hitting the ball off the middle. Great for his future. We did speak in the timeout about it is not about how we look, we will keep fighting. Make sure we don't ball the soft balls. Batsmen played good shots but we were soft in certain overs,” he added.
